Profile of Yasir Shah
Had he been born in any other country, Yasir Shah might have played 20 Tests in the time it took him to play just five. Having made his First-Class debut in his mid-teens in 2001-02, Yasir finally turned out for Pakistan only in 2011, and even there he played a lone ODI before being cast aside once again.

After spending three years in the wilderness of domestic cricket, Yasir was picked seemingly out of nowhere for the Test series against Australia in UAE following Saeed Ajmal’s suspension. He responded by taking seven wickets in his debut Test and earned accolades from Shane Warne, no less. His impressive showing against Australia meant that he retained his spot for the series against New Zealand that followed, where he took his maiden Test fifer at Dubai.

His showings in the two back-to-back Test series (he took 27 wickets from five Tests) were good enough for the selectors to pick him for the ICC World Cup 2015. With Ajmal still likely to miss out on international cricket for a while, Yasir could soon become Pakistan’s first-choice spinner across formats.
